The Deutschlandticket arrived in May 2023 as one of the most ambitious transit initiatives Germany has seen — a single pass, one price, valid everywhere. At €63 per month (as of January 2025), it provides access to regional trains, S-Bahn and U-Bahn lines, buses, trams, and more across the entire country, with no need to calculate zones or buy separate tickets.
Is it worth it?
- Lower costs than most alternatives: In most cities with expensive monthly passes, the Deutschlandticket is cheaper.
- Real flexibility: The subscription renews monthly, can be managed digitally, and is also available in chip card format from some providers.
- An environmental upside: Encouraging transit use over private car travel contributes meaningfully to reducing CO2 emissions.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Valid in 2nd class only.
- Long-distance trains — ICE, IC, and EC — are not covered.
- Children under 6 travel free alongside the ticket holder.
- Available from a range of providers; TicketPlus+ offers additional perks on top of the standard subscription.
