What is the Deutschlandticket?
The Deutschlandticket (also known as the D-Ticket or 49-Euro-Ticket) was introduced in May 2023 by the German government as a nationwide flat-rate travel pass. For a fixed monthly price, it gives unlimited travel on all local public transport in Germany.
What it covers
- All regional trains (RE, RB, IRE) across Germany
- All S-Bahn networks (Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt, etc.)
- All U-Bahn / subway systems
- All trams and city buses
- All rural and intercity buses (not operated by Fernbus/FlixBus)
- Valid in all 16 German federal states
- Also valid at some cross-border stations (e.g. Basel SBB, Kufstein, Salzburg Hbf)
What it does NOT cover
- High-speed ICE, IC, EC trains (long-distance / Fernverkehr)
- FlixBus, BlaBlaCar or other private long-distance coaches
- Night trains (Nightjet, etc.)
- Seat reservations (must be booked separately even on regional trains)
- Bikes during peak hours on some networks (separate bike ticket may be needed)
The Subscription Rule – What Tourists Must Know
By law, the Deutschlandticket is only available as a monthly subscription (Monatsabonnement). It is not possible to buy it for a single day, a weekend, or just one week. The minimum purchase is always one full calendar month.
This is regulated by the German states' joint agreement (Ländervereinbarung) and the national Deutschlandticket framework. All providers – DB Navigator, BVG, HVV, and TicketPlus+ – must offer it as a subscription under these rules.
Monthly subscription only
You subscribe for at least one month (€63). There is no day ticket, week ticket, or short-term option.
Auto-renews monthly
The subscription automatically continues each month unless you cancel in time. Set a reminder before month-end.
Pause feature (TicketPlus+ only)
TicketPlus+ is the only major provider offering a pause feature. You can pause your subscription for months you won't be in Germany.
Cancel up to 24h before month-end
At TicketPlus+, you can cancel as late as 24 hours before the end of the month – far more flexible than other providers who require notice by the 10th of the previous month.
