Semester Ticket
The semester ticket is a discounted transit ticket for students, included in the semester fee at many universities — in some states supplemented by the Deutschlandticket.
What is the Semester Ticket?
The semester ticket (also called student ticket or Semesterticket Deutschland) is a discounted local transit ticket for students, offered by most German universities as part of the semester fee. It is valid for one semester (6 months) and typically covers regional public transit.
Semester Ticket and the Deutschlandticket
Since summer semester 2024, more and more universities are offering a semester ticket based on the Deutschlandticket:
- Students receive the Deutschlandticket at a reduced price (usually between €29 and €39/month)
- Valid for one semester (6 months)
- Valid nationwide in all public transit networks and regional trains
- Billing is automatic through the semester fee
